Cactos opens a new R&D and production center in Kempele and unveils next-generation product line

November 27, 2024

Cactos, a manufacturer of smart battery energy storage systems, has opened a new R&D and production center in Vihikari, Kempele. The grand opening took place on October 3, 2024. At the same time, Cactos unveiled its next-generation, more efficient battery storage systems.

With the new production and development facilities, Cactos is addressing the rapidly growing demand for its battery storage systems. The current production capacity of the 4,100 square meter factory is 80 megawatt-hours per year, and the maximum production capacity could reach up to 250 megawatt-hours.

Cactos expects to hire 100 new employees for its Vihikari facilities in addition to its current 30 employees.

“The new facilities in Vihikari enable us to significantly increase our production capacity and develop and rapidly deploy new energy solutions. Vihikari is an ideal location for us due to its excellent accessibility and the diverse logistics connections in the area,” says Cactos CEO and founder, Oskari Jaakkola.

The next-generation products meet the diverse energy needs of properties

At the opening event, Cactos introduced its next-generation, more efficient battery storage systems: Fero and Yavia.

The Fero, installed indoors, is designed as part of energy solutions for commercial and public buildings. Its maximum charge and discharge power per unit is 92 kVA, and the battery capacity is 215 kWh.

The Yavia, installed outdoors, is suitable for a variety of applications, such as enabling higher peak power for electric vehicle fast-charging stations and ancillary service market use. The maximum charge and discharge power per unit is 184 kVA, and the battery capacity is 430 kWh.

Both units can be installed in parallel up to a connection power of 10 megawatts.

“With Yavia, we will support even more diverse needs, particularly for high-power charging of electric vehicles. Charging stations require outdoor energy storage solutions that work in even the harshest conditions,” Jaakkola sums up.
