Completed projects

9.2 MWh battery storage system at NTRN Energy Park
Our customer Enetron acquired a 4.4 MW / 9.2 MWh battery storage system for their NTRN Energy Park 01 site in Kiiminki. The system was delivered in January 2026 and entered commercial operation in February. It is built around a single third-generation Cactos Nevado unit and participates in Fingrid's reserve markets as well as wholesale electricity markets.
Total system power: 4.4 MW
Participates in FCR-N, FCR-D and aFRR reserve markets, and intraday and day-ahead wholesale markets
10.3 MWh battery storage system in Kuhmoinen
We delivered a 10.3 MWh battery storage system to our customer Rando Grid in Kuhmoinen. The project kicked off in June 2024, a construction permit was granted in August, and commercial operation began in January 2025. The system automatically participates in both reserve markets and wholesale electricity markets, supporting grid stability and efficient energy use.
Total system power: 5 MW
Participates in FCR-N, FCR-D and aFRR reserve markets, and intraday and day-ahead wholesale markets

How to get started

1. Assessment
The project begins with an assessment of the site and grid connection possibilities, as well as the project goals.

We support both early-stage ideation and situations where land and a grid connection are already in place.
2. Permits
Battery storage projects typically require at least a construction permit. The process depends on the municipality and local zoning.

We provide the necessary technical documentation and support the application process.
3. Delivery
Cactos delivers, installs and commissions the battery storage system. Our delivery time from order to commercial operation is approximately 9 months.

We can also discuss a broader turnkey implementation.
4. Operation
Once the project is complete, the system participates in electricity markets. Cactos operates and maintains the battery storage system.

The system can also store locally produced energy or optimise the site's energy use.

Nordic partner from start to finish

In geopolitically uncertain times, protecting critical infrastructure is more important than ever. Cactos systems are designed and built entirely in Finland at our factory in Kempele, without external parties. Our software and interfaces are built using the latest technologies and offer bank-level cybersecurity, compliant with the IEC 62443 standard.

What are grid-scale projects and why are they built?

Grid-scale battery energy storage systems are battery installations of at least one megawatt in size. They are used to balance the electricity system, store renewable energy and participate in electricity markets.

Typically, these are battery storage systems on separate sites whose revenues come from reserve and wholesale markets. The system can also be located alongside a large consumption site, where it can optimise the site's own electricity use in addition to generating market revenues.

FAQ

Olipa kiinteistösi millainen tahansa, jokainen päivä energiamaailmassa on erilainen.

Who are Cactos grid-scale battery storage systems suitable for?

Our grid-scale battery storage systems are suited to grid operators, renewable energy producers and property developers who want to participate in wholesale and reserve electricity markets using battery storage. Grid-scale battery storage is also an excellent fit alongside large consumption sites such as industrial facilities or data centres for optimising electricity management.

Which markets does a Cactos battery storage system participate in?

In Finland, Cactos battery storage systems participate in Nord Pool intraday and day-ahead markets, Fingrid's reserve markets (FCR-N, FCR-D, aFRR), and the joint transmission and distribution network congestion management marketplace.

Currently, participation is available in Finland. Contact us to learn more about your country's status.

Who handles the trading?

Cactos handles everything related to battery storage optimisation and trading automatically via the Cactos Spine software.

How are market revenues paid to the customer?

Market revenues are settled to our customers once a month.

What size system can Cactos deliver?

Cactos can currently deliver systems of up to 50 MWh in capacity.

What warranties and maintenance does Cactos offer?

The leasing agreement includes a 10-year full warranty. For direct purchases, the warranty is 2 years, extendable for an additional fee.

System monitoring, updates and maintenance are included in the agreement.

How does a project start and how long does it take?

The project begins with an assessment of the land area and grid connection possibilities, as well as the project goals. The typical permitting process varies by municipality and most often takes 2–3 months. Cactos battery storage systems have a delivery time of approximately 9 months from order to commercial operation.

What is the customer's responsibility in the project?

The customer is responsible for permitting, civil works and foundations, and the grid connection. For Nevado systems, the transformer and transformer substation are always included in Cactos' scope of delivery. We can also discuss a broader turnkey implementation if preferred.
