Cactos, known for its battery energy storage systems, to start selling Finland’s cheapest electricity to its customers

June 17, 2025

Cactos Oy, a Finnish developer and operator of intelligent battery energy storage systems, will begin offering its customers the cheapest electricity in Finland this autumn.

Cactos serves customers such as industrial and agricultural businesses, as well as large properties, where it has delivered its battery energy storage systems.

The AI-powered software integrated into Cactos’ energy storage units enables exceptionally low electricity pricing by continuously tracking electricity production and consumption in real time. This new business expansion promises relief for many energy-intensive sectors that struggle with high or at least volatile electricity prices.

“We are dealing with something quite fundamental here,” says Oskari Jaakkola, CEO of Cactos. “We have hundreds of energy storage units across Finland supporting our customers’ electricity usage. We realized that this infrastructure also enables us to offer the most affordable electricity in the country. And in the end, that’s what everyone wants.”

According to Jaakkola, the system functions so that in addition to ancillary service market participation and, for example, peak demand support, the battery storage system ensures based on forecasting and real-time measurement that electricity is always procured from the market at the lowest possible price. This is an advantage that traditional energy companies lack.

Operations begin immediately

Cactos’ transformation into an energy provider has progressed rapidly. Just a couple of weeks ago, the company sent a survey to its customers to gauge their interest in purchasing electricity from Cactos. Now, the first pilot customers have already signed electricity contracts with the company. Broader rollout to other customers will follow in the autumn.

Cactos has been experiencing steady growth. About a month ago, the company announced the delivery of its first battery energy storage systems to Sweden, specifically to Wibax’s terminal in Malmö to accelerate electric truck charging. Cactos is also aiming to begin electricity sales in Sweden as soon as possible.
